baseline performance evaluation
Baseline performance evaluation
My baseline performance was based on a newspaper article
which are teacher found. We then as a class created a character from the
subtext within the article. The character we created was named hope harper. Each
of us got to play hope at a separate stage of her life I myself played hope age
five. I wrote a monologue to perform as my version of the hope character which
consisted of 4 short paragraphs and spend around a hour each evening at home
rehearsing. I also rehearsed my monologue in class as well as practiced techniques
which should of helped my performance be more successful. When it came down to
performing my scene I was incredibly nervous, I felt prepared but I allowed my
nerves to affect the quality of my performance. I started out my performance with
two false starts and would not allow my full class to watch me.
Watching my
performance back on video I can see I need to work on portraying my characters
age better by using body language and gestures, I also need to work on my
projection and diction to be better understood while on stage. I also need to
take the time to rehearse my line and
practice the scene at the same time because there are many moments where I seem
confused or as if I had forgotten but that’s not the case, id simply just got
overwhelmed by my inability to multitask. I was genuinely surprised by the audiences
positive response to my monologue as I didn’t believe it was my best work and believed
I could have wrote a much stronger piece. I was very much happy with the feedback
I received which was things such as to work on my projection , confidence and
to use my body language more effectively. Which were things I was already aware
I needed to alter.
I think for
a baseline performance I was fairly successful as I had built up a good character
profile and performed using the correct tone of voice a five year old would
which may be difficult for some people, the tone had to have the bright enthusiasm
of a young child but also show hurt in her voice from her home life where she
suffers abuse.
Although I have
many things to improve upon such as my vocal projection , body language and
gestures, audience awareness and my confidence I am very proud of the
performance I put on.
